Click 📍 My position in that same panel to take a single GPS reading from your device. It marks where you are, shows your accuracy, and reports your position as an NZTM2000 grid reference as well as plain latitude and longitude. The NZTM grid reference is the format New Zealand search and rescue services work from, and there is a Copy position button so you can paste it straight into a text message. It takes one reading and stops, rather than tracking continuously, to conserve your battery. Note that map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS reading does not — your coordinates stay correct even in places where the map itself cannot load.

The blue 📍 My Location & Navigate button starts live turn-by-turn driving directions from wherever you are to any destination you enter, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing if you leave the route.

Map search is available for a limited number of queries per session to manage costs. Be specific — search precisely for best results.

About Chartwell, Wellington

Chartwell is a locality in the Wellington Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 290 m above sea level. It lies approximately 4 km north-west of Wellington, the regional capital. Chartwell is located at 41.2583°S, 174.7502°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Chartwell lies nestled amongst rolling hills that slope towards the distant glint of the sea, a landscape softened by the persistent sea air. It lies 3.8 km north-west of Wellington (from Wellington: bearing 326°T), and is situated 14.7 km west-south-west of Lower Hutt. The terrain here is a tapestry of verdant paddocks, punctuated by stands of native bush that cling to the gullies and steeper slopes. The light often carries a pearlescent quality, especially in the late afternoon, as it catches the dew on the lush grass and illuminates the gentle undulations of the land. The air, even kilometres from the open coastline, holds a subtle salinity, a constant reminder of the proximity to Lambton Harbour.

This region of Chartwell, though not directly on the coast, has always felt the pulse of the harbour's activity. Historically, its economy was deeply entwined with the burgeoning port, with many families finding their livelihood in timber milling and later in the more intensive dairy farming that now defines much of the surrounding countryside. The land itself, fertile and well-watered, has supported generations of agricultural endeavour, with sheep and beef farming also forming a significant part of the local economy. A quiet resilience seems to permeate Chartwell, a sense of enduring connection to the land and the sea that has shaped its character for so long.

About This Chartwell Map Page

This page provides an embedded street and satellite map of Chartwell, Wellington, New Zealand at coordinates -41.25827, 174.75019. Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch views, the plus and minus buttons to zoom, and Fullscreen to fill the screen.

Search Maps opens a second, independent map with four things the embedded map cannot do. It searches OpenStreetMap for any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name. It offers LINZ topographic maps as a base layer — the official Topo250 and Topo50 sheets, switching scale automatically as you zoom, and the standard reference for tramping, hunting and back-country travel. It offers LINZ aerial imagery down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. And it can take a single GPS fix from your device and report your position as both an NZTM2000 grid reference and plain latitude and longitude — the grid reference being what New Zealand search and rescue services work from. Map tiles require mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the coordinates remain correct even where the map itself cannot load.

My Location & Navigate starts the vector-tile navigator: live turn-by-turn driving directions from your current position to any destination, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing.

Live weather conditions with current observations and a 7-day forecast are powered by Open-Meteo. Real-time New Zealand and world news feeds keep the page current, while an editorial description provides background on Chartwell.

Chartwell sits within the Wellington Region. Location data is drawn from the GeoNames geographical database and verified by coordinates, ensuring the correct Chartwell is identified even where the name is shared across multiple New Zealand localities.
