Runanga rests in a hollow of the land, where the foothills of the Twelve Apostles Range begin their gentle ascent from the surrounding plains. It lies 160.8 km north-west of Rolleston (from Rolleston: bearing 325°T), and is situated 8.6 km north-north-east of Greymouth.
