Poerua is a locality in the West Coast Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 122 m above sea level. It lies approximately 36 km south-east of Greymouth, the regional capital. Poerua is located at 42.7000°S, 171.5000°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Poerua lies where the land begins to soften its rugged West Coast edge, a scattering of dwellings and farms embraced by a quiet, verdant landscape. It lies 121.6 km north-west of Rolleston (from Rolleston: bearing 324°T), and is situated 28.3 km north of Arthur’s Pass. Rolling country, a patchwork of emerald pasture and darker, native bush, rises gently towards the distant, hazy silhouette of the Bald Range.
