Nikau is a locality in the West Coast Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 113 m above sea level. It lies approximately 119 km north-northeast of Greymouth, the regional capital. Nikau is located at 41.5500°S, 171.9333°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Nikau rests in a pocket of the West Coast Region, cradled by the rising slopes that eventually form the Radcliffe Ridge, a mere four kilometres away. It lies 111.4 km west-south-west of Stoke (from Stoke: bearing 256°T), and is situated 35.5 km north-east of Westport. The landscape here is a tapestry of native bush, dense and verdant, its deep greens punctuated by the softer hues of farmland that spills across the rolling terrain.
