TOPO MAPS — NEW. Click the green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map to open a second map with a Base map row offering three choices. OSM is the standard OpenStreetMap street map. Topo shows the official LINZ topographic maps — the Topo250 and Topo50 sheets used for tramping, hunting, hut access and back-country navigation, switching scale automatically as you zoom in. Aerial shows LINZ aerial imagery, down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. The search box above the map finds any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Waitetuna.

Click 📍 My position in that same panel to take a single GPS reading from your device. It marks where you are, shows your accuracy, and reports your position as an NZTM2000 grid reference as well as plain latitude and longitude. The NZTM grid reference is the format New Zealand search and rescue services work from, and there is a Copy position button so you can paste it straight into a text message. It takes one reading and stops, rather than tracking continuously, to conserve your battery. Note that map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS reading does not — your coordinates stay correct even in places where the map itself cannot load.

The blue 📍 My Location & Navigate button starts live turn-by-turn driving directions from wherever you are to any destination you enter, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing if you leave the route.

Map search is available for a limited number of queries per session to manage costs. Be specific — search precisely for best results.

About Waitetuna, Waikato

Waitetuna is a locality in the Waikato Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 58 m above sea level. It lies approximately 23 km west-southwest of Hamilton, the regional capital. Waitetuna is located at 37.8333°S, 175.0333°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Waitetuna rests in a gentle cradle of rolling farmland, where the rich Waikato soil, a deep, fertile brown, spills down from the foothills of the Kapamahunga Range. It lies 22.7 km west-south-west of Hamilton (from Hamilton: bearing 256°T), and is situated 13.7 km east-south-east of Raglan. The air here carries the faint, clean scent of distant sea, a whisper from Haroto Bay, some ten kilometres towards the coast. The Waitetuna River, a vital vein of the district, meanders through the valley, its waters reflecting the wide, often-clouded sky that hangs over the region. Patches of native bush cling to the steeper slopes, a darker green against the softer hues of pasture, hinting at the wilder landscapes that lie further inland.

The economy of Waitetuna has long been tied to the bounty of the land, primarily dairy farming, the rhythmic hum of milking machines a constant, low thrum against the quietude. This agrarian heartland has seen generations of families work the soil, their lives shaped by the seasons and the demands of the herd. The nearby Karamu Walkway offers a quiet invitation to explore the surrounding countryside, a gentle path that allows travellers to appreciate the cultivated beauty of the district. While the wilder waters of Lake Disappear lie a considerable distance away, and the dramatic Bridal Veil Falls are a day's journey, the essence of Waitetuna is found in its verdant fields and the steady pulse of its agricultural life, a character as enduring as the rich earth itself.

Search Maps opens a second, independent map with four things the embedded map cannot do. It searches OpenStreetMap for any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name. It offers LINZ topographic maps as a base layer — the official Topo250 and Topo50 sheets, switching scale automatically as you zoom, and the standard reference for tramping, hunting and back-country travel. It offers LINZ aerial imagery down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. Live weather conditions with current observations and a 7-day forecast are powered by Open-Meteo. Real-time New Zealand and world news feeds keep the page current, while an editorial description provides background on Waitetuna.

Waitetuna sits within the Waikato Region. Location data is drawn from the GeoNames geographical database and verified by coordinates, ensuring the correct Waitetuna is identified even where the name is shared across multiple New Zealand localities.
