Oparau is a locality in the Waikato Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 12 m above sea level. It lies approximately 44 km south-west of Hamilton, the regional capital. Oparau is located at 38.0500°S, 174.9167°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Oparau rests in a gentle cradle of rolling farmland, where the soft green of pasture meets the deeper hues of native bush clinging to the slopes. It lies 43.7 km south-west of Hamilton (from Hamilton: bearing 227°T), and is situated 8.9 km east-north-east of Kawhia.
