Okauia rests in a basin of rolling country, where the land sighs into gentle slopes before rising towards the distant, blue-hazed Kaimai Range. It lies 30.8 km west-south-west of Tauranga (from Tauranga: bearing 249°T), and is situated 7.3 km east-north-east of Matamata.
