Mapua is a locality in the Tasman Region of New Zealand. It has a population of approximately 1,819. It sits at an elevation of around 6 m above sea level. It lies approximately 12 km north-west of Richmond, the regional capital. Mapua is located at 41.2500°S, 173.1000°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT). Statistics New Zealand classifies the area as a small urban area.

Mapua rests on the northern edge of the South Island, its landscape a gentle embrace of rolling hills that slope towards the Waimea River, a mere five kilometres distant. It lies 13.4 km west-north-west of Stoke (from Stoke: bearing 304°T), and is situated 11.6 km north-west of Richmond. The air here carries a subtle, saline tang, a whisper of the sea that lies a couple of kilometres further east, where the waters of Ruby Bay softly lap the shores. This is a land of fertile soil, where orchards and vineyards have found purchase, and the distant Barnicoat Range forms a hazy blue backdrop to the north.
