Kawatiri is a locality in the Tasman Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 468 m above sea level. It lies approximately 63 km south-west of Richmond, the regional capital. Kawatiri is located at 41.7000°S, 172.6000°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Kawatiri sits in a wide basin, cradled by the undulating slopes of the Braeburn Range to the east. It lies 67.8 km south-west of Stoke (from Stoke: bearing 231°T), and is situated 24.8 km east-north-east of Murchison. Here, the land unfolds into a patchwork of tussock-clad hills and fertile plains, etched by the sinuous course of the Buller River. The air carries a crisp, dry quality, a testament to its inland position, and the vast, often pale blue sky stretches endlessly overhead, punctuated by the stark silhouettes of distant ridgelines.
