TOPO MAPS — NEW. Click the green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map to open a second map with a Base map row offering three choices. OSM is the standard OpenStreetMap street map. Topo shows the official LINZ topographic maps — the Topo250 and Topo50 sheets used for tramping, hunting, hut access and back-country navigation, switching scale automatically as you zoom in. Aerial shows LINZ aerial imagery, down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. The search box above the map finds any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Kairuru.

Click 📍 My position in that same panel to take a single GPS reading from your device. It marks where you are, shows your accuracy, and reports your position as an NZTM2000 grid reference as well as plain latitude and longitude. The NZTM grid reference is the format New Zealand search and rescue services work from, and there is a Copy position button so you can paste it straight into a text message. It takes one reading and stops, rather than tracking continuously, to conserve your battery. Note that map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS reading does not — your coordinates stay correct even in places where the map itself cannot load.

The blue 📍 My Location & Navigate button starts live turn-by-turn driving directions from wherever you are to any destination you enter, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing if you leave the route.

Map search is available for a limited number of queries per session to manage costs. Be specific — search precisely for best results.

About Kairuru, Tasman

Kairuru is a locality in the Tasman Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 276 m above sea level. It lies approximately 39 km north-northwest of Richmond, the regional capital. Kairuru is located at 41.0333°S, 172.9333°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Kairuru rests in a gentle embrace of rolling farmland, where the air carries the faintest tang of salt from the distant Dummy Bay. It lies 39.5 km north-west of Nelson (from Nelson: bearing 312°T), and is situated 13.1 km north-north-west of Motueka. The land here is a patchwork of emerald pastures and darker swathes of native bush, sloping gradually towards the South Branch Riwaka River, a ribbon of silver that threads its way through the landscape. Sunlight, often soft and diffused by a coastal haze, catches the dew-kissed leaves of the surrounding trees and glints off the corrugated iron roofs of scattered farm buildings. The soil, a rich, dark loam, promises abundance, and the distant rumble of the sea, though miles away, is a constant murmur beneath the quiet hum of rural life.

The history of Kairuru is written in the weathered fences and the enduring rhythm of its agricultural economy. For generations, families have worked this land, their lives tied to the cycles of dairy farming, the rich pastures supporting herds that have long been the backbone of Kairuru's prosperity. While the open coastline of Dummy Bay is a significant draw for travellers seeking the wilder beauty of the Tasman Region, Kairuru itself thrives on a more grounded industry, its produce finding its way to markets near and far. The nearby Moss Bush offers a quiet sanctuary, a reminder of the wilder, untamed country that presses in, though the dominant character of Kairuru is one of settled cultivation, a place where the past informs the present with a quiet, unshakeable dignity.

About This Kairuru Map Page

This page provides an embedded street and satellite map of Kairuru, Tasman, New Zealand at coordinates -41.03333, 172.93333. Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch views, the plus and minus buttons to zoom, and Fullscreen to fill the screen.

Search Maps opens a second, independent map with four things the embedded map cannot do. It searches OpenStreetMap for any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name. It offers LINZ topographic maps as a base layer — the official Topo250 and Topo50 sheets, switching scale automatically as you zoom, and the standard reference for tramping, hunting and back-country travel. It offers LINZ aerial imagery down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. And it can take a single GPS fix from your device and report your position as both an NZTM2000 grid reference and plain latitude and longitude — the grid reference being what New Zealand search and rescue services work from. Map tiles require mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the coordinates remain correct even where the map itself cannot load.

My Location & Navigate starts the vector-tile navigator: live turn-by-turn driving directions from your current position to any destination, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing.

Live weather conditions with current observations and a 7-day forecast are powered by Open-Meteo. Real-time New Zealand and world news feeds keep the page current, while an editorial description provides background on Kairuru.

Kairuru sits within the Tasman Region. Location data is drawn from the GeoNames geographical database and verified by coordinates, ensuring the correct Kairuru is identified even where the name is shared across multiple New Zealand localities.
