TOPO MAPS — NEW. Click the green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map to open a second map with a Base map row offering three choices. OSM is the standard OpenStreetMap street map. Topo shows the official LINZ topographic maps — the Topo250 and Topo50 sheets used for tramping, hunting, hut access and back-country navigation, switching scale automatically as you zoom in. Aerial shows LINZ aerial imagery, down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. The search box above the map finds any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Dovedale.

Click 📍 My position in that same panel to take a single GPS reading from your device. It marks where you are, shows your accuracy, and reports your position as an NZTM2000 grid reference as well as plain latitude and longitude. The NZTM grid reference is the format New Zealand search and rescue services work from, and there is a Copy position button so you can paste it straight into a text message. It takes one reading and stops, rather than tracking continuously, to conserve your battery. Note that map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS reading does not — your coordinates stay correct even in places where the map itself cannot load.

The blue 📍 My Location & Navigate button starts live turn-by-turn driving directions from wherever you are to any destination you enter, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing if you leave the route.

Map search is available for a limited number of queries per session to manage costs. Be specific — search precisely for best results.

About Dovedale, Tasman

Dovedale is a locality in the Tasman Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 300 m above sea level. It lies approximately 21 km west of Richmond, the regional capital. Dovedale is located at 41.3333°S, 172.9333°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Dovedale lies cradled by a landscape of rolling hills, their verdant slopes etched with the darker green of native bush. It lies 25.1 km west of Stoke (from Stoke: bearing 266°T), and is situated 12.2 km north-west of Wakefield. The land here is a study in subtle contours, a gentle rise and fall that speaks of ancient geological processes rather than dramatic upheavals. Sunlight, when it breaks through the often-clouded skies, casts a soft, diffused glow, illuminating the varied textures of the terrain – the rougher patches of tussock giving way to the smoother, cultivated fields. The air carries a damp, earthy scent, a constant reminder of the proximity of the land and the moisture it holds, and in the distance, one might hear the faint, persistent murmur of the Dove River.

The history of Dovedale is inextricably linked to the land's bounty. For generations, its economy has been shaped by the rhythm of the seasons and the demands of agriculture, with sheep and beef farming forming the backbone of its sustenance. The rich soil, nurtured by the clear waters of the Dove River, has also seen the rise of horticulture, with orchards of apples and kiwifruit adding splashes of vibrant colour in their respective seasons. While not a major hub, Dovedale has a quiet industriousness, a place where neighbours know each other and the pace of life is dictated by the needs of the farm and the changing light. It’s a locality that has quietly prospered, a testament to the enduring spirit of those who have worked this land.

About This Dovedale Map Page

This page provides an embedded street and satellite map of Dovedale, Tasman, New Zealand at coordinates -41.33333, 172.93333. Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch views, the plus and minus buttons to zoom, and Fullscreen to fill the screen.

Search Maps opens a second, independent map with four things the embedded map cannot do. It searches OpenStreetMap for any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name. It offers LINZ topographic maps as a base layer — the official Topo250 and Topo50 sheets, switching scale automatically as you zoom, and the standard reference for tramping, hunting and back-country travel. It offers LINZ aerial imagery down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. And it can take a single GPS fix from your device and report your position as both an NZTM2000 grid reference and plain latitude and longitude — the grid reference being what New Zealand search and rescue services work from. Map tiles require mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the coordinates remain correct even where the map itself cannot load.

My Location & Navigate starts the vector-tile navigator: live turn-by-turn driving directions from your current position to any destination, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing.

Live weather conditions with current observations and a 7-day forecast are powered by Open-Meteo. Real-time New Zealand and world news feeds keep the page current, while an editorial description provides background on Dovedale.

Dovedale sits within the Tasman Region. Location data is drawn from the GeoNames geographical database and verified by coordinates, ensuring the correct Dovedale is identified even where the name is shared across multiple New Zealand localities.
