Waikaia is a locality in the Southland Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 179 m above sea level. It lies approximately 84 km north-northeast of Invercargill, the regional capital. Waikaia is located at 45.7333°S, 168.8500°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Waikaia rests in a broad, fertile valley, cradled by the gentle, rounded slopes of the Round Downs. It lies 83.6 km north-north-east of Invercargill (from Invercargill: bearing 28°T), and is situated 41.7 km north of Gore. The land here is a mosaic of rich, dark earth, crisscrossed by the meandering Waikaia River, its waters a clear, cool murmur over smooth stones.
