Waihoaka rests in a broad, fertile valley that drains towards the distant, restless shimmer of Te Waewae Bay. It lies 53.2 km west-north-west of Invercargill (from Invercargill: bearing 290°T), and is situated 11.2 km south of Tuatapere. The land here is a tapestry of greens and golds, where rolling farmland, stitched with the darker, dense wool of native bush, slopes gently upwards towards the rugged, shadowed flanks of the Longwood Range.
