Paetawai is a locality in the Northland Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 40 m above sea level. It lies approximately 25 km north-northeast of Whangarei, the regional capital. Paetawai is located at 35.5333°S, 174.4500°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Paetawai lies in a gently undulating landscape, where the rich soil, a deep, fertile brown, slopes towards the distant shimmer of the sea. It lies 24.8 km north-north-east of Whangarei (from Whangarei: bearing 27°T), and is situated 10.3 km north-north-west of Ngunguru.
