Koutu lies under a wide Northland sky, where rolling hills, cloaked in a patchwork of emerald farmland and the deeper green of native bush, descend towards the broad expanse of Hokianga Harbour. It lies 87.2 km west-north-west of Whangarei (from Whangarei: bearing 289°T), and is situated 10.6 km south-west of Rawene.
