Awarua is a locality in the Northland Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 84 m above sea level. It lies approximately 47 km west-northwest of Whangarei, the regional capital. Awarua is located at 35.5766°S, 173.8347°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Awarua rests in a broad, fertile basin, where the land rolls with a gentle, almost imperceptible slope towards the Tawapuke River. It lies 47.4 km west-north-west of Whangarei (from Whangarei: bearing 291°T), and is situated 20.1 km south of Kaikohe. The air here carries the scent of damp earth and sun-warmed pasture, a perpetual perfume that clings to the woollen fibres of the sheep that dot the surrounding paddocks. To the north, the Tokaweheru Forest presses in, a dark, verdant mass that spills down the lower slopes, its canopy a dense, unbroken hush.
