Murumuru rests in a broad valley where the land begins to lift, a gentle incline towards the distant, brooding presence of the Matemateaonga Range. It lies 74.5 km north of Whanganui (from Whanganui: bearing 6°T), and is situated 27.8 km north-west of Ohakune.
