Whakatu is a locality in the Hawke's Bay Region of New Zealand. It is a small community with a population of 639. It sits at an elevation of around 7 m above sea level. It lies approximately 12 km south-southwest of Napier, the regional capital. Whakatu is located at 39.6000°S, 176.8833°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT). Statistics New Zealand classifies the area as a rural settlement.

Whakatu rests on a fertile plain, a landscape gently sculpted by the alluvial deposits of the nearby Clive River, which meanders a kilometre to its edge. It lies 5.1 km north-east of Hastings (from Hastings: bearing 35°T), and is situated 12.2 km south-south-west of Napier.
