TOPO MAPS — NEW. Click the green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map to open a second map with a Base map row offering three choices. OSM is the standard OpenStreetMap street map. Topo shows the official LINZ topographic maps — the Topo250 and Topo50 sheets used for tramping, hunting, hut access and back-country navigation, switching scale automatically as you zoom in. Aerial shows LINZ aerial imagery, down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. The search box above the map finds any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Moteo.

Click 📍 My position in that same panel to take a single GPS reading from your device. It marks where you are, shows your accuracy, and reports your position as an NZTM2000 grid reference as well as plain latitude and longitude. The NZTM grid reference is the format New Zealand search and rescue services work from, and there is a Copy position button so you can paste it straight into a text message. It takes one reading and stops, rather than tracking continuously, to conserve your battery. Note that map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS reading does not — your coordinates stay correct even in places where the map itself cannot load.

The blue 📍 My Location & Navigate button starts live turn-by-turn driving directions from wherever you are to any destination you enter, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing if you leave the route.

Map search is available for a limited number of queries per session to manage costs. Be specific — search precisely for best results.

About Moteo, Hawke's Bay

Moteo is a locality in the Hawke's Bay Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 67 m above sea level. It lies approximately 11 km west of Napier, the regional capital. Moteo is located at 39.5000°S, 176.7833°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Moteo rests in a gentle embrace of rolling farmland, where the rich earth, a deep ochre, yields to the persistent industry of cultivation. It lies 11.1 km west of Napier (from Napier: bearing 266°T), and is situated 6.8 km west-north-west of Taradale. The air here carries a faint, dry scent of sun-baked grasses and the distant, almost imperceptible tang of the sea, a reminder of the proximity to the coast, though the nearest significant water body is the tranquil Inner Harbour, some ten kilometres distant. The landscape is a tapestry of softly rounded hills, softened by the passage of seasons, interspersed with pockets of native bush that cling to the contours. The Tutaekuri River, a ribbon of silver glinting under the expansive Hawke's Bay sky, carves a patient path through the land, its waters reflecting the broad, clear light that bathes Moteo.

The history of Moteo is etched into the very soil, a narrative of agricultural endeavour that has shaped its identity. For generations, the land has been a generous provider, supporting the quiet hum of dairy farming and the more robust presence of sheep and beef operations that dot the surrounding hills. This agrarian backbone is complemented by the burgeoning viticulture that has taken root in the region, its neatly ordered rows of vines hinting at the sweet promise of the grape. While not a bustling hub, Moteo possesses a distinct character, a sense of enduring connection to the land and its bounty, a place where the rhythm of the seasons dictates the pace of life, and the distant murmur of the Tutaekuri River provides a constant, soothing soundtrack.

About This Moteo Map Page

This page provides an embedded street and satellite map of Moteo, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand at coordinates -39.5, 176.78333. Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch views, the plus and minus buttons to zoom, and Fullscreen to fill the screen.

Search Maps opens a second, independent map with four things the embedded map cannot do. It searches OpenStreetMap for any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name. It offers LINZ topographic maps as a base layer — the official Topo250 and Topo50 sheets, switching scale automatically as you zoom, and the standard reference for tramping, hunting and back-country travel. It offers LINZ aerial imagery down to 5cm resolution in urban areas.
