TOPO MAPS — NEW. Click the green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map to open a second map with a Base map row offering three choices. OSM is the standard OpenStreetMap street map. Topo shows the official LINZ topographic maps — the Topo250 and Topo50 sheets used for tramping, hunting, hut access and back-country navigation, switching scale automatically as you zoom in. Aerial shows LINZ aerial imagery, down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. The search box above the map finds any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Morven.

Click 📍 My position in that same panel to take a single GPS reading from your device. It marks where you are, shows your accuracy, and reports your position as an NZTM2000 grid reference as well as plain latitude and longitude. The NZTM grid reference is the format New Zealand search and rescue services work from, and there is a Copy position button so you can paste it straight into a text message. It takes one reading and stops, rather than tracking continuously, to conserve your battery. Note that map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS reading does not — your coordinates stay correct even in places where the map itself cannot load.

The blue 📍 My Location & Navigate button starts live turn-by-turn driving directions from wherever you are to any destination you enter, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing if you leave the route.

Map search is available for a limited number of queries per session to manage costs. Be specific — search precisely for best results.

About Morven, Canterbury

Morven is a locality in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 23 m above sea level. It lies approximately 188 km south-west of Christchurch, the regional capital. Morven is located at 44.8333°S, 171.1167°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Morven presents a landscape of gentle, sun-drenched plains that stretch towards the distant, hazy outlines of The Hunters Hills. It lies 49.7 km south-south-west of Timaru (from Timaru: bearing 193°T), and is situated 12.8 km south-south-east of Waimate. The earth here, a rich loam, is sculpted by the slow, deliberate passage of time and the diligent work of its inhabitants. Farmland, delineated by the sturdy lines of fences and the occasional cluster of sheltering trees, dominates the immediate surroundings, giving way in places to the more untamed scrub and native bush that hint at the wilder country beyond. The air, particularly in the late afternoon, carries a dry warmth, a testament to the inland latitude, and the sky above often appears a vast, unbroken expanse of luminous blue, occasionally punctuated by the slow drift of puffy white clouds.

This is a place whose character has been shaped by the land and the enduring spirit of those who have worked it. The Waihao River, a vital artery, flows nearby, its presence a constant reminder of the water that sustains the region’s agricultural heart. Morven’s economy is deeply rooted in the productivity of its pastures, primarily supporting sheep and beef farming, a tradition that has sustained families for generations. While the rhythm of country life prevails, there is a quiet resilience here, a sense of continuity and purpose that is evident in the well-maintained properties and the neighbourly interactions that colour the everyday.

About This Morven Map Page

This page provides an embedded street and satellite map of Morven, Canterbury, New Zealand at coordinates -44.83333, 171.11667. Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch views, the plus and minus buttons to zoom, and Fullscreen to fill the screen.

Search Maps opens a second, independent map with four things the embedded map cannot do. It searches OpenStreetMap for any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name. It offers LINZ topographic maps as a base layer — the official Topo250 and Topo50 sheets, switching scale automatically as you zoom, and the standard reference for tramping, hunting and back-country travel. It offers LINZ aerial imagery down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. And it can take a single GPS fix from your device and report your position as both an NZTM2000 grid reference and plain latitude and longitude — the grid reference being what New Zealand search and rescue services work from. Map tiles require mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the coordinates remain correct even where the map itself cannot load.

My Location & Navigate starts the vector-tile navigator: live turn-by-turn driving directions from your current position to any destination, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing.

Live weather conditions with current observations and a 7-day forecast are powered by Open-Meteo. Real-time New Zealand and world news feeds keep the page current, while an editorial description provides background on Morven.

Morven sits within the Canterbury Region. Location data is drawn from the GeoNames geographical database and verified by coordinates, ensuring the correct Morven is identified even where the name is shared across multiple New Zealand localities.
