Mawaro is a locality in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 284 m above sea level. It lies approximately 164 km west-southwest of Christchurch, the regional capital. Mawaro is located at 44.3000°S, 170.8833°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Mawaro rests on a broad sweep of Canterbury’s inland plains, a landscape defined by the patient sculpting of wind and water. It lies 31.3 km west-north-west of Timaru (from Timaru: bearing 290°T), and is situated 26.8 km west-north-west of Gleniti. The earth here is a rich, loamy brown, stretching towards the hazy horizon where the rolling forms of The Hunters Hills begin their gentle ascent. The air carries a dry, clean scent, particularly in the late afternoon when the sun casts long, amber shadows across fields of ripening grain and pasture.
