TOPO MAPS — NEW. Click the green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map to open a second map with a Base map row offering three choices. OSM is the standard OpenStreetMap street map. Aerial shows LINZ aerial imagery, down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. The search box above the map finds any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Domett.

Click 📍 My position in that same panel to take a single GPS reading from your device. It marks where you are, shows your accuracy, and reports your position as an NZTM2000 grid reference as well as plain latitude and longitude. The NZTM grid reference is the format New Zealand search and rescue services work from, and there is a Copy position button so you can paste it straight into a text message. It takes one reading and stops, rather than tracking continuously, to conserve your battery. Note that map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS reading does not — your coordinates stay correct even in places where the map itself cannot load.

The blue 📍 My Location & Navigate button starts live turn-by-turn driving directions from wherever you are to any destination you enter, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing if you leave the route.

Map search is available for a limited number of queries per session to manage costs. Be specific — search precisely for best results.

About Domett, Canterbury

Domett is a locality in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 67 m above sea level. It lies approximately 90 km north-northeast of Christchurch, the regional capital. Domett is located at 42.8500°S, 173.2167°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Domett rests on a gentle swell of land, its character shaped by the proximity of the great sea, though its shores are some eight kilometres distant. It lies 89.5 km north-north-east of Christchurch (from Christchurch: bearing 32°T), and is situated 52.2 km north-east of Amberley. Rolling farmland, a patchwork of verdant pasture and the darker, richer hues of tilled earth, stretches towards the distant, hazy line of the coast. The air here carries a subtle salt tang, a whisper from Port Robinson, mingling with the earthy scent of soil and the occasional sweet perfume of flowering gorse that spills over the low fences. Beyond the cultivated fields, the land begins to rise and fall more dramatically, hinting at the more rugged terrain that eventually gives way to the faint silhouette of Jacobs Ladder on the horizon. The Hurunui River, a silver ribbon in the distance, sketches a slow, meandering course through the landscape, its presence felt more in the subtle moisture of the air than in any immediate roar.

The economic pulse of Domett has long been tied to the land, with dairy herds dotting the surrounding pastures, their contented cud-chewing a familiar soundtrack to the quiet days. This agricultural heartbeat is a continuation of a long tradition, a legacy of settlers who first tamed this coastal fringe. While farming remains a cornerstone, the proximity to the coast also brings a subtle influence from the sea, a reminder of the wider world accessible through Port Robinson. The Port Robinson Walkway, a popular track for travellers and locals alike, offers a tangible connection to the coastline, drawing visitors who appreciate the understated beauty of this region. In the evenings, as the light softens, a particular quality descends upon Domett, a quiet luminescence that seems to settle over the fields and houses, imbuing the landscape with a gentle, enduring peace.

This page provides an embedded street and satellite map of Domett, Canterbury, New Zealand at coordinates -42.85, 173.21667. Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch views, the plus and minus buttons to zoom, and Fullscreen to fill the screen.

Search Maps opens a second, independent map with four things the embedded map cannot do. It searches OpenStreetMap for any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name. It offers LINZ topographic maps as a base layer — the official Topo250 and Topo50 sheets, switching scale automatically as you zoom, and the standard reference for tramping, hunting and back-country travel. It offers LINZ aerial imagery down to 5cm resolution in urban areas.
