Wairata is a locality in the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 141 m above sea level. It lies approximately 49 km south-east of Whakatane, the regional capital. Wairata is located at 38.3000°S, 177.3333°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

It lies 70.4 km west-north-west of Gisborne (from Gisborne: bearing 304°T), and is situated 27.5 km south-east of Waimana.
