Waimangu is a locality in the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 478 m above sea level. It lies approximately 64 km west-southwest of Whakatane, the regional capital. Waimangu is located at 38.2840°S, 176.3826°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Waimangu lies cradled by rolling hills that descend towards the distant, shimmering expanse of Rapatu Bay, a mere seven kilometres to the east. It lies 20.1 km south-east of Rotorua (from Rotorua: bearing 143°T), and is situated 27.4 km south-east of Ngongotaha.
