Tahawai is a locality in the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 45 m above sea level. It lies approximately 105 km west-northwest of Whakatane, the regional capital. Tahawai is located at 37.5167°S, 175.9333°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Tahawai lies where the rich, dark soil of the Bay of Plenty begins to roll and swell towards the distant Kaimai Range. It lies 27.9 km north-west of Tauranga (from Tauranga: bearing 312°T), and is situated 4.0 km north-north-east of Katikati.
