TOPO MAPS — NEW. Click the green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map to open a second map with a Base map row offering three choices. OSM is the standard OpenStreetMap street map. Topo shows the official LINZ topographic maps — the Topo250 and Topo50 sheets used for tramping, hunting, hut access and back-country navigation, switching scale automatically as you zoom in. Aerial shows LINZ aerial imagery, down to 5cm resolution in urban areas. The search box above the map finds any New Zealand town, suburb or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Papamoa.

Click 📍 My position in that same panel to take a single GPS reading from your device. It marks where you are, shows your accuracy, and reports your position as an NZTM2000 grid reference as well as plain latitude and longitude. The NZTM grid reference is the format New Zealand search and rescue services work from, and there is a Copy position button so you can paste it straight into a text message. It takes one reading and stops, rather than tracking continuously, to conserve your battery. Note that map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS reading does not — your coordinates stay correct even in places where the map itself cannot load.

The blue 📍 My Location & Navigate button starts live turn-by-turn driving directions from wherever you are to any destination you enter, with spoken guidance, lane hints and automatic re-routing if you leave the route.

Map search is available for a limited number of queries per session to manage costs. Be specific — search precisely for best results.

About Papamoa, Bay of Plenty

Papamoa is a locality in the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 10 m above sea level. It lies approximately 65 km west-northwest of Whakatane, the regional capital. Papamoa is located at 37.7333°S, 176.3000°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Papamoa sprawls across gentle, sandy plains, a sun-drenched locale where the air often carries a faint, salty tang from the distant ocean. It lies 12.9 km east-south-east of Tauranga (from Tauranga: bearing 114°T), and is situated 5.7 km north-north-west of Te Puke. The land itself is a study in soft contours, a mosaic of lush green lawns and meticulously tended gardens, punctuated by the occasional stand of native trees that whisper in the sea breeze. Low-lying and accessible, Papamoa’s character is defined by its open skies and the wide horizons it offers, a place where the flat terrain invites easy movement and a sense of unhurried expansion.

Historically, Papamoa’s story is one of evolving landscapes and resourceful inhabitants, a testament to its coastal proximity and the fertile volcanic soils that have long supported agriculture. While not directly on the open coast, the influence of Rangataua Bay, some ten kilometres distant, subtly shapes its climate and the maritime echoes that reach inland. The Kaituna River, a mere five kilometres away, has for centuries been a vital artery, its waters once shaping the very land now occupied by homes and businesses. This region’s economic pulse has long been tied to the bounty of the earth and sea, with horticulture, particularly kiwifruit cultivation, now a prominent feature, adding a vibrant splash of green to the established pastoral scenes and a steady hum of activity to the local economy.
