Kutarere is a locality in the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand. It sits at an elevation of around 5 m above sea level. It lies approximately 17 km east-southeast of Whakatane, the regional capital. Kutarere is located at 38.0460°S, 177.1441°E. It observes New Zealand Time (NZST/NZDT).

Kutarere rests in a landscape where the land gently unfurls towards the distant shimmer of Ohiwa Harbour, some six kilometres away. It lies 79.3 km east of Rotorua (from Rotorua: bearing 83°T), and is situated 13.2 km west-south-west of Opotiki.
