Profile

I am a long time programmer and robot enthusiast. I am also an ODP editor, an Open Site editor and a Robots.net editor. Robotics fans should visit the robot forum for Robots.net or my main site for robotics in the future and present, or read my Roboraptor reviews blog. I am also the author of Robodance, a free software program for WowWee, i-SOBOT, and other consumer entertainment robots that allows you to script them, control them by voice, over the web, with the Nintendo Wii Remote & Nunchaku and do many other interesting robot control tasks. (Note: as part of developing the Wii Remote part of the software I learned many solid tips on getting a good Nintendo Wii price without resorting to getting price gouged on eBay).

My latest project is using Genetic Programming to make a Robosapien robot learn to dance. The Robosapien V2 is the next target for the software due to it's advanced capabilities. I have started a new site for Robosapien hacker type's too and a blog called the Robosapien V2 Review where people can get the latest tips and tricks on the V2. I recently bought a Roboraptor and I'm going to be adding speech recognition support to him soon so he will be a fully voice enabled RC Roboraptor. Finishing off my collection is my new i-Cybie robotic dog who already responds to voice commands.

I definitely will get a Roboreptile, Robosapien RS Media. These are the fabulous new robots WowWee debuted at the recent 2006 Consumer Electronics show. Shortly after, WowWee released the blue and red webbed Spidersapien and beloved Homer Simpson style Homersapien toy robots. My second love when it comes to robots are of course the transformers toys. Although they are more action figure than robot, they are modelled after the ultra-cool glossy robots from the "Transformers", Michael Bay's take on the Transformer Robots series.

My latest blog reviews robots and my first entry covers reviews on Roomba and I have another blog called The Recall List - Toys with information on manufacturer toy recalls . The first entry in that blog covers Fisher Price Toy Recalls with a list of recalled toys 2002 and other children recalled toys. I'm officially blogging on the Pleo dinosaur robot from Ugobe, which is not the same dinosaur robot as the stationary 3 foot tall Kota The Triceratops. It's almost guaranteed to be a hit this summer and if you'd like to talk about it, stop by my new Pleo forum. If you’re waiting to get a Pleo dinosaur the wait is almost over. I expect a wave of Pleo videos and Pleo pictures, showing off the Ugobe Pleo to appear soon. The Pleo robot has wowed every tech and gadget web site that has seen it and I am eager to write my own Pleo review soon and in the meantime I am beginning work on a portal or fan site for the Pleo Dinosaur. Hot on the heels of the tiny dino is a new robot I'm dying to get, the Tomy/Takara i-SOBOT. It's the world's smallest mass produced humanoid robot, and it brings a full featured wonderfully agile humanoid into the price range of the average consumer. I'll be writing an ongoing i-SOBOT review in blog format once I have one. Coming hot on the heels of the i-SOBOT is the remote controlled spy robot, the Erector Spykee robot. This self-recharging robot, can guard your home and send you a picture whenever something disturbs its motion sensors. A mobile tunes player too, it can climb stairs and at as a client for a Skype video call.

Now that the Roboreptile, WowWee's new aggressive robot dinosaure, has been released, I have a new blog to review and cover it called the Roboreptile Review. To prove I'm also a fun uber-geek, please watch my animated music video spoof which I call the numa numa english song. It's a parody of the famous Numa Numa dance song and you can find the lyrics to it here: numa numa lyrics. When I buy Pleo I'll have over 7 robot dinosaurs in my collection.

It's 2007 as I write this and four new robots have arrived from WowWee and I am really excited about them. The first is the Flytech Dragonfly a flying robot that flaps its wings, the Robopanda, an interactive robot toy for children that sings and play games, and finally the Roboboa, a snake-like robot that has "high-accuracy vision" and an interesting array of exploratory behaviors. One of the most interesting and endearing is the new spider robot called the Roboquad. The Roboquad has "deep infrared" scanning technology that allows it to sense edges and object sizes. Still waiting in the wings is the eagerly anticipated Robosapien V3. The Robosapien V3 is not here yet but there are already a lot of people dying to get a glimpse of one but the wiseguy three-wheeled Tri-Bot robot has been released.

Two of WowWee's robots from this years Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2008) really caught my attention. First, the Rovio spy robot, an affordable telepresence robot that acts as a security robot. Using a quick and easy point and click software interface, you can set up patrol routes that navigate the Rovio to predetermined spots in your home. The WowWee Rovio will then follow these routes and stream you audio and video over the Web to anywhere in the world. Second, the Flytech Bladestar. A flying blade that has advanced sensors which allow it to avoid obstacles by itself, essentially giving it an autopilot mode. But I would be remiss if I did not mention the first female robot by WowWee, the Femisapien. You can see her strut her stuff with the rest of the crazy WowWee robot family in a Barbie World style parody of Aqua's famous Barbie Song. The latest good news is that WowWee is releasing a hand held super remote called the Roboremote that can control all of their robots. Elmo Live is the latest potential hit toy robot coming this year from Fisher-Price in October 2008. The Elmo Live Doll (robot) dances, sings, and even tells stories. But just as popular will be the Thinkways Ultimate Wall-E robot. The Ultimate Wall-E robot is a smart and clever little bot that really feels like the movie character and has an innovative touchpad on his remote control for navigation. This really adds a new dimension to the Wall-E Toys family.

Both these robots are not out yet but you can pre-order Elmo Live for those intending to buy Elmo Live. Similarly, you can pre-order Ultimate Wall-E if you want to buy Ultimate Wall-E.

With all the robots I have I decided to put up a web covering Batteries Plus to help people save money on rechargeable batteries. On the programming front I am learning Ruby and Ruby On Rails and still making a lot of robot related videos. If you watch some of my earlier ones you'll see I had no idea what I was doing, so I hope this helps others. I hope to put up a helper page that gives people assistance with google translate and tries to refine the translations a bit. Finally, what would life be like without a new blog? My latest blogging passion is a blog I call The Best Selling Toys blog. It will focus strictly on the toys side of the burgeoning gadgets and gizmos market.
